Ruth Easter Shively, age 100 of Ferrum died Thursday May 31, 2007.
Mrs. Shively was born in Henry, VA September 21, 1906, a daughter of the late Charles Henry and Sallie Young Easter.
She also lived in Fayerdale, moved to Ferrum as a child, and finished her schooling at Ferrum Training School (Ferrum College) in 1925. She was the widow of A. Herman Shively, a General Motors dealer in Ferrum and Altavista. Mrs. Shively was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, The Order of Eastern Star and D.A.R.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson James H. Shively, Jr.; four brothers Ernest, Earl, Hugh and Leonard Easter; two sisters Elsie Easter and Nelle Shively.
Surviving are two sons James H. Shively and wife Nancy, and John S. Shively and wife Ann; four grandchildren Cabell Shively, Elliott Shively, Mindy Ruth Kennedy, and John Shively, Jr.; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their appreciation to her caregivers for their loyal and dedicated care, Ruth McDaniels, Norma McCoy, Faye Goad, and the staff at Franklin Health Care.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. James United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 38, Ferrum, VA 24088, Ferrum College, P.O. Box 1000, Ferrum, VA 24088 or a favorite charity.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 12:00 noon Saturday with Rev. Liz Lazenby officiating.
Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
Her family will be receiving friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
