Ruth Pugh Turner, age 94 of Wirtz passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Turner; parents, Floyd and Callie Boone Pugh; sister, Nadine (Fred) Bennett; brother-in-law, Hugh Byrd; and sister-in-law, Goldie Pugh. Surviving are her daughters, Diane T. Whitlow, Nancy (Jim) Brown; son, Ben T. Turner (Maureen McGary); grandchildren, Wanda Whitlow, Malinda (Matthew) Paul, James Turner, Elizabeth Turner, William (Clara) Turner; one great-grandson, Benjamin Edward Paul. Also surviving are sister, Florence P. Byrd; and brother, B. G. "Spike" Pugh; and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved gardening and was an excellent cook. She was a member of Red Valley United Methodist Church, Burnt Chimney Ruritan Club, and past member of the Franklin County Farm Bureau Women, Franklin County Extension Homemakers Club, and Burnt Chimney Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. In her youth, she was active in the 4-H Club and was a member of a local band called "The Possum Hunters". Special thanks to her wonderful caregivers, Eve Milton, Linda Perdue, Chaney Jamison and Rebecca Jamison, also to Good Samaritan Hospice for all their care and compassion. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Joshua King officiating. Interment will follow in the Turner Family Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
