Samuel Defilippis

Samuel DeFilippis, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 17, 2018.  He lived most of his life in Mendham, NJ where he owned Sammy's Auto Body Shop for 47 years. He moved to Moneta, VA in 1998. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy, and is survived by his four children, Pamela (D'Agostino) and her husband Gus; Peter and his wife Phyllis; Patti (Bolio) and her husband Mike; and Phyllis (Howell) and her husband Brant. Sammy was "Pop" to 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was one of 12 children born to parents who immigrated to America from Italy in 1902. He is also survived by his sister, Edith Smith, of Bernardsville, NJ. and several nieces and nephews. Sammy was an avid trapshooter and during his younger years, enjoyed hunting game birds. He was predeceased by several of his cherished hunting dogs. He was loved by many in his community and will be remembered fondly for his kindness and sense of humor.
