Samuel “Sammy” Franklin Philpott, age 65 of Rocky Mount, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2008.
Sammy was born on August 22, 1942, a son of the late George Edward Philpott, Jr and Eva Elizabeth Philpott. He was also preceded in death by his brother, George Edward, III and nephew, Clyde H. Southard, Jr.
Sammy was a member of Fork Mountain United Methodist Church and enjoyed boating, water activities, small engine repair, and was a skilled craftsman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Leah Ray Philpott; daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Ott and husband Kevin of Belews Creek, NC; Wendy Hicks and husband Jon of Stokesdale, NC; four grandchildren, Alexandra Ott, Jon Ethan Hicks, Anna Hicks, and Mandi Ott; sister and brother-in-law, Ann P. Southard and husband Clyde; and many other family members and friends.
Memorial services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 3 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Bobby Shively and Pastor Sarah Whitmore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, 390 South Main Street, Rocky Mount or to Fork Mountain Rescue Squad, c/o Captain Doug Nunn, 1822 Fork Mountain Road, Bassett, Va. 24055.
The family will be receiving friends from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
