Samuel Clifton Haynes, age 92 of Snow Creek died peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2015. He was a life-long resident of Snow Creek, born August 28, 1922 to the late Charlie Issiah Haynes and Minnie Ramsey Haynes. Mr. Haynes loved working the land on Fairlane Farms. He retired after many years as a rural mail carrier in Martinsville and Henry County. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #90 in Snow Creek where he held many offices and made numerous friends. He loved his church, Snow Creek Christian, where he was an active member and Elder throughout the years of his life. He truly appreciated the caring and continued contacts of his church friends during his latter years in the nursing home. He was preceded in death by his much loved wife, Clara Hunt Geoghegan Haynes. In addition, preceding him in death were his sisters, Roxie Danzel Ramsey and Callie Pinkard Fortune; brothers, Thomas Gordon Haynes , Pyrant Clayborne Haynes and Roy Wilson Haynes. He is survived by his step-son and daughter, Richard Geoghegan and wife Phyllis, Debra Call and husband Jack; grandchildren, Jody Dodd, Jeff Call, and Scott Call; great-grandchildren, Seth, Caleb and Abigail. Mr. Haynes also had numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 3 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Rob Lovett officiating and Masonic Rites by Snow Creek Lodge #90 A.F. & A.M. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Snow Creek Christian Church, 4970 Snow Creek Road, Martinsville, Va. 24112. His family will receive friends beginning at 1:45 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
