Samuel W. Weddle, Sr., age 66 of Rocky Mount died Sunday, June 30, 2013. Sam was born November 11, 1946 a son of the late Howard and Irene Weddle. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry Weddle. Sam was a gentle man with a big smile who loved his wife and family. He was a United States Navy Veteran and member of the Order of the Black Palm. He was a member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church and retired from Cooper Wood Products where he enjoyed working with wood. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Judy Weddle; sons, Sam Weddle, Jr. and wife Diana of Glade Hill, John Weddle and wife Brookes of Rocky Mount; granddaughter, Halynn Weddle; special little boy, Ethan; loved mother-in-law, Marybelle Moore; sisters, Alice St. Clair of Roanoke, Annie Zupfer of Minnesota, Linda Clemons (Elmer) of Roanoke; brothers, Johnny Weddle of Roanoke; Dewie Weddle (Kathryn) of Troutville, Jim Weddle (Carolyn) of Arkansas; Lloyd Weddle of Newport News, Ralph Weddle (Eva) of Roanoke; many loved nieces and nephews; and friends, brothers and sisters in Christ. Funeral services will be conducted from Furnace Creek Baptist Church 2 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Mike Lawhorn officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Furnace Creek Baptist Church and one hour prior to services.
