Sandra Lee Powell

Sandra L. Powell (Sandy), 76 years old of Wirtz, VA, passed away on the evening of Monday, September 8, 2025 surrounded by family. Born on March 24, 1949 she was a deeply caring person who would give anything she had to help loved ones and friends. She loved spending time with her family and her pets and taking care of her plants.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Wilkins Dawson (Will) and Frances (Fran) Dawson.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 47 years, James Powell (Jimmy); her daughters, Pattie Kone and Jamie Scott (Darrell); one granddaughter, Kalli Kone; and one great-grandson, Zealand Kone. She is also survived by two sisters, Pat Henderson and Jo Anne Dawson; and a brother, Scott Dawson (Donna).

The family wishes to express our sincere thanks to Carilion Hospice, including her nurse Helen for their excellent care of Sandy and support this team provided throughout Sandy's time with hospice.

A celebration of her life will be held at Pleasant Hill Church, 2717 Ruritan Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
