Shannon Harlow, age 77, of Rocky Mount, died Thursday afternoon at his home. He was born in Samaria, Kentucky, on June 15, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents Melissa and Harvey Harlow; a daughter Lisa Harlow Ricker; and a son Shannon Timothy Harlow; sister, Sue Harlow. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Jean Hanson Harlow, and daughter Meghan Harlow. He is survived by sisters Linda Harlow Allison, of Big Stone Gap, VA, Dorothy Harlow Crabtree of Bluefield, WV, Jody Jacobsen of Tallahassee, FL; brothers H.E. Harlow of Brandon, FL, Gary Harlow of Lehigh Acres, FL, Curtis Harlow of Newport News, VA, and Bob Ray Harlow of Livonia, MI. He is also survived by two grandsons, Corbin and Collin Ricker of Columbus, OH. Mr. Harlow served in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired as president of Crestar Bank of Rocky Mount in 1994. Prior to moving to Rocky Mount, he had been an officer at the Bank of Christiansburg, and First National Bank of Christiansburg. He attended Marshall University and is a graduate of the West Virginia School of Banking at West Virginia University, and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was active in professional and community service organizations, including vice president and director of Christiansburg Chamber of Commerce, president, vice president and director of Christiansburg Kiwanis Club, Chairman of the Agricultural Committee Group V Virginia Banker’s Association, member of Board of Directors for New River Community College in Dublin, VA, chairman of the Regional Banker’s Association, president of Southwest Virginia Chapter of Bank Administration Institute, director of Independent Banker’s Association of Virginia, president of Franklin County Chamber of Commerce and president of Rotary Club of Franklin County. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry for many years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 101 Church Street NW, Rocky Mount, VA. Funeral Services will be conducted from Trinity Episcopal Church 2:00 p.m. Monday with Co-Rectors John and Rachel Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg. His family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
