Sharon Mary Armes, age 76 of Hardy died suddenly but peacefully at home December 17, 2020. Born Sharon Mary Thompson on Sept. 16. 1944 to Harry and Ruth Thompson in Pittsburgh, Pa, where she lived until early adulthood. Leaving Pittsburgh, she moved on to Boston, MA for several years and then to Washington, DC, where she was always in demand as an executive secretary due to her superior secretarial skills, the World Bank being among her employers. After marrying, she and her husband lived in Arlington, VA. There they owned and managed Larry's Newsstand and Snack Bar that operated at the Marine Corp. headquarters. Loving to travel, she and Larry visited many countries around the world learning about other cultures. She loved spending time with her family and enjoying every memory made during their visits. She had a flair for dressing both herself and her home. With her striking red hair, green eyes and fashion sense, people often asked if she was a model. She had a sharp mind and was knowledgeable on so many subjects that she could converse intelligently with just about anyone. She was witty, generous and always upbeat and encouraging. Her grand sense of humor and genuine laugh was a trait loved by everyone that knew her. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Larry Armes of Virginia; her sister, Elaine Tucker of Massachusetts; her brother, Dan Thompson and wife Daisy of Georgia; her nephew, David Tucker of New Hampshire; her nieces, Heather Leahey of Massachusetts, Amber Teitgen of Massachusetts, and Serina Briley of Georgia; her mother-in-law, Pauline Armes; sister-in-law, Nancy Armes Alsbrook of Virginia; niece, Vanessa Rudder of Virginia; nephew, Rick Alsbrook and his wife, Amanda of Virginia; uncle, Buck Boyd of Pennsylvania; cousin, Dorrie Friedrich and husband Norman of Pennsylvania; over a dozen great nieces, nephews and cousins. She was much loved by all and will be greatly missed. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount/Smith Mountain Lake.
