Shirley Robertson Ramsey Campbell

Shirley Robertson Ramsey Campbell, age 76 of Rocky Mount passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 from complications of a stroke. Born on November 6, 1936 and raised in Rocky Mount, Virginia, Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and sister. She was devoted to her family and got great pleasure from family gatherings and events. She was known for her fabulous country cooking. Being the mother of four boys, there were always extra kids around the house and she made sure that everyone was well fed. An enthusiastic music fan, she was particularly fond of old country, especially George Jones. She was also known to cut a rug on occasion. You could often find her tapping her toes or flatfooting at one of the many dances held in and around Franklin County. A hard worker all her life, Shirley was surrounded by boys. The only girl in a family of four brothers, she also raised four sons of her own. She got her "girl time" with her four daughters-in-law, granddaughters and great-granddaughters. Shirley was pre-deceased by her parents, Luther Lee and Bertha Dillon Robertson; her brother, Bennie Hughes Robertson; and her first husband, Burley Ray Ramsey. She is survived by her four sons and their wives, Danny Ray and Lisa, Rickey Dale and Karen, Mark Wayne and Kelli, and Jesse Dean and Charlotte. She is also survived by nine grand-children, Amanda, Travis, Lauren, Dillon, Jan, Kayla, Jordan, Jesilyn and Benjamin; and, great-grandchildren, Xena, Cameron, Gavyn, Coltyn, Austin, Haley, Emmalyn, Garren, Evan, and Victoria. In addition, she leaves behind brothers, Elmer (Margaret), Luther, Jr. (Mary), James (Patsy) Robertson; special sister-in-law, Mildred Graham; and second husband, Curtis Campbell. She also leaves behind a special friend from her days at Pheasant Ridge, Rosella Neighbors. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Thomas Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Dillon Family Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
