Silas Leeland Mitchell age 87 of Union Hall, passed away Sunday morning January 16, 2011. After a long fight with lung cancer he went to his heavenly reward. Silas was born August 19, 1923. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Housman Mitchell, also he was preceded by his parents, Lee Mitchell and Alverda David Mitchell, his sisters Melva Arrington and Ethel Shelton. Surviving are his son Wayne T. Mitchell of Union Hall, his daughter Pat M. Cadd and son-in-law Mickey Cadd, brother; Paul Mitchell of Union Hall and wife Alvie Mitchell, sister; Leona Rakes of Martinsville; sister–in-law Lou Byrd, also grandchildren Teresa Mitchell and companion Barry Green of Burnt Chimney; Jonathon Sawyer and wife Dena of Union Hall; great grandchildren Tina Marie Green and Mary Elizabeth Green. The family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to Karen Tosh the hospice nurse and to Carilion Hospice. Also a thank you to Glade Hill Rescue Squad and to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in Franklin Memorial Park with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 til 2:30 Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service/Cremation Center Rocky Mount.
