Stafford Menefee Young, age 90 of Ferrum died Thursday, May 10, 2007.
He was a veteran of World War II where he served as an electrician in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Story Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Young was also the owner/operator of Young Grocery in Waidsboro and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Smith Young; parents, Grover and Lula Young; brothers, Lawrence and Buford (Mose) Young; and a sister, Mildred Deal.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Melanie Young; granddaughter, Shanna Marie Young; grandson, Bryce N. Young; sister, Ellen Young; sister-in-law, Rachel Young; nephew, Frankie Deal; one special niece, Sandra O’Malley; his dear friend, Becky Taylor and beloved caregiver Hazel Shively.
Funeral services will be conducted from Story Creek Baptist Church 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Floyd Harrison and Rev. Garlin Strouth officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday with his family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
