Stephanie Byrd Young

Stephanie Byrd Young, age 52, passed away at her home in Ferrum, July 25, 2017 after a 2 ½ year battle with breast cancer. She was born May 24, 1965 in Martinsville, Virginia. She was the only child of Herman Ralph Byrd and Betty Carter Adkins. She was an active member of Evangelistic House of Prayer in Ferrum where she operated the projection computer for many years. She spent many hours behind the scenes preparing for choir, youth programs and regular services. She was always active in the youth meetings and programs, as well as a faithful member of her cherished Sunday School class. Stephanie recently retired from Henry County Public Schools as an Administrative Secretary after almost 20 years of service. She struggled with the decision to take early retirement due to her illness because of the love she had for her job and her friends there. Stephanie is survived by her husband, Stephen “Steve” Young; her son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Kristinia Young; her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Mark Gordon; “G’s” five beautiful grandchildren - Abigail “Abbey”, Brody and Creed Young, Emma and Paisley Gordon; her mom and step-dad, Betty and C.L. Adkins; special uncle, John Henry “HenHen” Byrd; special cousin, Sheila Mabry Lopez; and special friends, Tom, Tina and Mackenzie Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her father, Herman Ralph Byrd. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Evangelistic House of Prayer, 785 Rambling Rose Road, Ferrum, Virginia. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Evangelistic House of Prayer with Rev. Bud Nichols and Tom Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow at the Carter Family Cemetery on Republican Church Road in Ferrum. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
