Listen to Obituary
Stephen Ford Jones, 88, of Moneta, VA passed away peacefully on June 28, 2014 in his home.

Ford leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 57 years, Louise Turner Jones and his three girls: Bonnie Collins (husband Michael), Lisa Poole (husband Jeffrey), and Stephanie Carlson (husband Samuel). He was dearly loved by his five grandchildren, who were the twinkle of his eye: Anna Arwen and Emily Nicole Collins, Lei-Lynn Kym Spencer, and Lilith Mae and Garrett Ford Carlson. Ford has one surviving sibling, Flossie May Ayers, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ford was preceded in death by his parents, James William and Vaughnie Snow Jones. Also preceded in death by siblings James Willie Guy, Loving Lorenzo, Nelson Henry, Ernest Ray, William Gordo, and Edna Clara Bell Brown.

Ford began a career in the United Sates Army in 1950, which he left to provide care for his ailing father. Upon retiring from Rubatex, where he worked for thirty-five years, Ford took on a part-time position at Winn-Dixie and later at Kroger. He worked until the age of 85. Still, spending time in nature and working with his hands brought Ford his greatest pleasures.

Having only lived five miles apart their entire lives, Ford and Louise meet while he was teaching Sunday School. He was a member, deacon, teacher, and song leader of Mt. Ivy Baptist Church and more recently a member and deacon of Mt. Ivy Christian Church. His unwavering faith was the foundation of his life. He lived with a sense of humor, a gentle compassion, and the ability to touch people.

Following a miraculous recovery from cancer, he was with us for an additional eighteen months. He showed strength of spirit that serves as an inspiration to us all. As a husband, a father, a grandfather, a mentor, and a friend, Ford will be greatly missed. However, all who knew Ford know that he has moved from his earthly to eternal home.

The family will receive visitors at Flora Funeral Service of Rocky Mount, VA on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral service at Flora's on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 2 pm. Graveside service will be at the Jones Family Cemetery with military honors immediately following the service.
