Susie Jane Blankenship

Susie Jane Blankenship, age 76 formerly of Franklin County and Johnson City, Tennessee died Wednesday, February 8, 2012. She was born in Union Hall on October 2, 1935 and spent her childhood in Salem, Virginia. She attended Madison College in Harrisonburg and while in college she became a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She later attended graduate school at Virginia Tech and was graduated with a degree in Dietetics. Susie worked as a dietitian at Radford College, The University of Virginia and the Veterans Administration. She retired from the Veterans Administration in Salisbury, NC where she lived for 20 years and upon retirement she moved to Johnson City, Tennessee. Susie was preceded in death by her mother, Carrie Cundiff; and brothers, Okie J. Blankenship, Jr., and Ernest E. Blankenship. Surviving are her sister, Ruby McBride and husband Willard; brothers, Herman Blankenship and wife Dee, Cecil Blankenship and wife Rachel, Hubert Blankenship and wife Nancy; several nieces and nephews; and her college roommate, sorority sister and lifelong friend, Shirley McKinley. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Eddie Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in the Cundiff Family Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
