Sylvia Peggy Young Woody, age 79 formerly of Rocky Mount, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, July 4, 2008.
She was a longtime member of Beulah Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Mrs. Woody was preceded in death by her parents, William Armstead Young and Leah Akers Young Hunt; and six brothers and sisters, Elsie Holland Nash, Ruby Lynch, William Kennis Young, Mabel Powell, Thomas Dalton Young, and Wattie A. (Bill) Young.
She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Joe Willis Woody, III. Also surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Bill Berger of Rocky Mount, two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph W. and Lynn Woody of Chester, David A. and Grace Woody of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Kelly Leatherwood of Chesterfield, Jonathan Woody of Fairfax, J.W. Woody, V of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Sarah Woody of Virginia Beach; a great-grandchild, Ashlyn Leatherwood; her brother and sister-in-law, Armstead A. (Will) and Joyce Young of Rocky Mount; sisters-in-law, Mary Young, Faye Young, Arlene Young, Ruth Frith; brother-in-law, William Perdue; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 3 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Thomas C. Siddle officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
The family requests that memorials be made to Beulah Baptist Church, 4220 Sontag Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151 or to King’s Grant Retirement Community, 300 King's Way Road, Martinsville, Va. 24112.
The family acknowledges with deep appreciation the loving care provided by the staff of the King’s Grant Retirement Community.
Her family will be receiving friends from 3-5 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
