Teresa “Terry” Lobmeyer (Rhodes), a beloved wife, devoted daughter, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Sunday, March 2, at the age of 61.
One of the most genuine people you could meet, Terry was known for her radiant smile, her unmistakable raspy voice — a testament to her strength after overcoming throat cancer earlier in life — and a warmth that made people feel instantly welcome. She never met a stranger. Her gentle nature, kindness, humor, upbeat outlook and fierce loyalty made her someone people gravitated toward and never forgot.
Raised in Dumont, NJ, Terry first met the love of her life, Larry, when they were teenagers growing up in New York. The pair married years later in Vermont, and relocated to Virginia to be close to family. Over the years, the two shared many adventures — traveling together, enjoying hobbies, and most of all taking motorcycle rides along her beloved Blue Ridge Parkway.
During her time in Vermont, and after moving to Virginia, Terry lived a life committed to helping others, working as a pharmacy technician at local pharmacies as well as the Blue Ridge Cancer Center of Roanoke. In her free time, Terry lived a life of service and always sought to bring beauty to the lives of others. An avid gardener, she had a love for making things grow. As a member of the Boones Mill Garden Club, Terry volunteered her time helping beautify spaces throughout the community, including the Bernard Free Clinic. She was a talented artisan who worked primarily to create one-of-a-kind stained glass pieces. Terry’s heart was especially evident in the way she cared for others — both people and animals alike. She opened her home without hesitation to those in need.
Terry's life was defined by her generosity, laughter, creativity, and selfless love. She had a rare ability to make people feel safe, welcomed, and valued. Her presence was warm like sunshine, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Larry; mother, Barbara; brother, Michael; Uncle Lee and Aunt Eileen; a wide circle of friends, family, and community members whose lives will be forever touched by her kindness.
A celebration of Terry's life will be held in the coming months. Friends and family are encouraged to remain in touch with her husband Larry for details. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation of any size to either St. Jude’s or Disabled American Veterans— two causes to which in her life, Terry held closely in her heart, and gave generously to.
Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
