Terry Carmon "Jay" Bennett, Jr., age 40 formerly of Rocky Mount died Friday, November 7, 2014. He was preceded in death by his sister, Stephanie Bennett; grandfather, Terry Nelson Bennett; and uncle, Richard Boone Bennett. Surviving are his wife, Ginny Bennett; mother, Mollie (Roger) Hodges; father, Carmon (Jennifer) Bennett; grandparents, Jack and Ruth Swicegood, Kathryn Bennett; aunts and uncles, Kaye Bennett, Diane (Warren) Nolen, Gary and Joy Swicegood; cousins, Leslie Nolen, Stacy Nolen, Morgan Swicegood; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces, Ella and Elin; great nephew, Eli; special friends, Bradley Lang, Jeremy Call, Joe Brown, Tony Besche, A.J. Dudley, Jody Crowe, Brian Wilkins, Scottie Lynch. Jay graduated from Franklin County High School, Class of 1992, Ferrum College and Thomas Jefferson School of Law. He had an outgoing personality, infectious smile, good heart, someone who loved people and one who never met a stranger. Jay loved sports, playing soccer at FCHS and Ferrum College. He enjoyed racing and NASCAR. Memorial services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m. Thursday with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stephanie Bennett Memorial Scholarship Fund, 350 Angle Plantation Rd., Rocky Mount, VA 24151 or to a charity of choice. His family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
