Thelma Perdue Bowman, age 91 of Redwood, VA was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. She was born to Phillip K. Perdue and Bessie Lynch Perdue in Redwood in 1921. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Wade Bowman, Sr.; her sister, Gladys Perdue Hontz (Horace); her brother, Henry D. Perdue; and niece, Phyllis Guilliams (Jack). Surviving are her son, John W. "Johnny" Bowman, Jr. (Annette); her daughter, Bonnie B. O?Neal (Toby); three grandchildren, John O?Neal (Karen), Doug O?Neal (Nicole), Beth Ann Bowman (Jennifer); as well as one great-grandchild, Henry O?Neal; her sister-in-law and companion, Tessie H. Perdue; devoted cousins, Francis Brown and Penny Brown. She is also survived by nieces, Tara Edwards (Mark), Patti Oglesby, Gerry Angerman, Janet Johnson, Debbie Williams, Wanda Jones, Peggy Cristi; and nephew, Dana Smith. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Ruby Metts, Elnora Pasley and Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospice for their kindness and support. Mrs. Bowman graduated from Radford University and was a teacher for 40 years with Franklin County Schools. She was a Sister in ADK Teaching Sorority as well as a longtime member of Redwood United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. Bradley S. Dulaney and Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
