Thomas A. “Tommy” Dalton, 74, of Wirtz, went to be with Jesus on February 21, 2019, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Tommy was born January 8, 1945 in Welch, West Virginia, and was a son of the late Hubert and Lorene (Young) Dalton. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Willie and Lillian Belcher, two brothers, Doug Dalton and Carl Dalton, and two sisters, Virginia Potter and Susie Sweeney.
Tommy attended Welch High School in Welch, West Virginia, and enlisted in the United States Army in 1963, where he obtained his GED. Tommy served almost three years in the Army and returned home in 1966 to marry his sweetheart, Wanda Belcher, and they settled in Roanoke, Virginia. Tommy and Wanda were married 52 ½ years. He was a retired letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Salem, Virginia where he served as President of N.A.L.C. Branch 1605. Tommy was a deacon at his home church, Elkhorn Baptist Church in Welch, West Virginia, and most recently attended Franklin Heights Church.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Wanda (Belcher) Dalton, of the home; his daughters, Becky (Curtis) Baldwin of Roanoke, Angela (David) Cepelnik of Rocky Mount, and Lisa (Greg) Belcher of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, Lindsay Baldwin, Owen, Ayden and Kynlee Cepelnik, and Kaitlin, Andrew and John Belcher; two sisters, Nancy (James) Underwood of Boones Mill, and Joan Penney of New Lebanon, Ohio; four brothers, Eddie (Ellen) Dalton of Rocky Mount, Ronnie (Loretta) Dalton of Bluefield, WV, Mike (Lula) Dalton of Rocky Mount, and David (Vickie) Dalton of Newhall, WV; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rose, Mary Dalton and Dawn Dalton; three brothers-in-law, Frank (Ruth) Belcher, Hersie (Judy) Belcher and Clarence (Connie) Belcher; and, numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held at Franklin Heights Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, with Elders Frank Belcher and Roger Walker, and Deacon Hersie Belcher officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at the church on Monday, February 25, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Dalton, Ronnie Dalton, Mike Dalton, David Dalton, Andrew Belcher, Owen Cepelnik, John Belcher, and Ayden Cepelnik.
