Thomas Ronald Sawyers, age 62 of Rocky Mount died Sunday, April 26, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia “Patty” Sawyers; and parents, Thomas J. and Sarah Phillips Sawyers.
Tom retired from the Franklin County School System with 30 years of service. He held several positions including 6th grade Teacher and Principal at Snow Creek Elementary School, and Athletic Coordinator at Franklin County High School.
Surviving are his sons, John Sawyers and wife Megan, Jason Sawyers; two grandchildren, Easton and Jacey Sawyers; sister and brother-in-law, Loretta Blevins and husband Cecil; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil Sawyers and wife Jean, Robert Sawyers and wife Juliette, Greg Sawyers; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Rocky Mount Christian Church 3 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Jody Johnson and Rev. Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the Athletic Department of Franklin County High School, 700 Tanyard Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday with his family receiving friends from 6-9 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
