Varlita Finney Hundley, age 88 of Rocky Mount went to be with her lord in heaven on Monday, April 9, 2007.
She was born in Cascade, Va. on May 3, 1918 a daughter of the late Bassel T. and Bertha Gray Finney. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Clyde T. Finney; sister, Vera Lou Finney Bryant.
Mrs. Hundley loved her church, Sandy Ridge Baptist, where she was an active member for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Ernest M. Hundley (“yes mam”); daughters, Deloris Hundley Broyles, Patricia Hundley Walter and husband Donald; granddaughters, Sabrina Harrison Pado and husband Lowell, Terri Harrison Baitzman and husband Bubba, Cheri Ray Foutz; great-granddaughter, Patria Leigh Pierce, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted from Franklin Memorial Park 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. A celebration of her life will be held at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church following the service at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Sandy Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 1444 Bonbrook Mill Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Wednesday with her family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
