Velena Burgess Bennett

Velena Burgess Bennett, age 93 of Roanoke passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014. She was a resident of Pheasant Ridge Assisted Living Facility. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Pheasant Ridge Assisted living Community and Southern Care Hospice. She was retired from Samuel Spiegel?s. Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Gordon Benjamin Bennett; parents, Walter and Mabel Showalter Burgess; sister, Arlene Burgess Via; and nephew, Richard Garnett Burgess. Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Dalton and Nancy Burgess; several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be conducted from Franklin Memorial Park 11 a.m. Saturday with Elder Junior Conner officiating. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
