Vernon Harvey Hinshaw

Vernon Harvey Hinshaw, age 90 of Henry, VA passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 18, 2026. He was born August 28, 1935 in Guilford County to Harvey and Belva Hammond Hinshaw. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Shirley Wright Hinshaw (passed December 10, 2025); and siblings, Hoyt Hinshaw, Boyce Hinshaw, Colleen McKoin, Denzel Dickerson and Aubrey Hinshaw.

Vernon graduated from Guilford High School where he met his future wife, Shirley Wright Hinshaw. They were married in 1955 and celebrated their 70th anniversary in May of 2025. Vernon owned and operated Hinshaw Construction and Shirley’s Orchard. They lived in the Guilford College community for 33 years before moving to Philpott Lake where they grew apples and peaches and joined and helped run the Patrick County Fruit Co-op.

Surviving are his children, Gwen Knight (Eddie), Gayle Wilson (Tommy), Carol Christopher (Jimmy) and Jimmy Hinshaw (Kimberley); 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of his life will be held at "The Boat Shed" (260 Shirley Lane, Henry, VA 24102) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
