Victor Gawne passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. He was born in Quantico, Virginia on September 9, 1956 to Roger J. and Dorothy M. (Lauer) Gawne.
Vic spent most of his childhood growing up in both Alma & Saginaw, Michigan.
As an adult he lived in Saginaw for many years until he settled in Rocky Mount, Virginia. As a young adult he decided to join the military, proudly serving two terms in the U.S. Army.
Vic was a talented artist. Drawing and painting beautiful pictures and sketches for friends & family. He enjoyed coin collecting all his life. He was a professional drywaller and was known for his uncanny skill at walking on stilts at work.
As a young man, Vic met & married the love of his life, Monika Beckman. Together, they had two children, a daughter and a son.
Vic is survived by his two children, a daughter, Victoria Gawne Rios and a son, Marcus Gawne (Jessica), twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Gene Gawne (Jennifer), Gina Crandall (Philip), Duane Gawne, Linda Szysmarek, Nancy Bridenstein (Ron Foltz), Kevin Gawne, Kharri Schneider (Jason) and Megan Ayers (Kevin) as well as many nieces, nephews and precious cousins and his ex-wife, Monika who remained his very special friend. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Mark and a sister, Brenda.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 31st at 2:00pm at Blue Ridge Chapel, 445 Blue Ridge Court in Rocky Mount, VA 24151 with Pastor Philip Crandall officiating. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Blue Ridge Chapel Building Fund or Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
