Vincent Bateman, age 87 of Rocky Mount died Saturday, March 29, 2014. He was born December 12, 1926 a son of the late Samuel Oakley and Eva Scearce Bateman. He was also preceded in death by his son, Vincent Harold Bateman; brothers, Samuel Bateman and Robert Bateman. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Gardner Bateman; daughter and son-in-law, Reba Bateman Whitt and husband Eddie; granddaughter, Julia Anne Whitt; and sister, JoAnne Adams. Vincent served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member and past Master of Rocky Mount Lodge #201 A.F. & A.M.. He was also a member of the Retired Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 100 and Fork Mountain United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 1 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Bobby Shively officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Fork Mountain Rescue Squad or Fork Mountain United Methodist Church. His family will receive friends 12 noon until service time on Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
