Viola Hancock Roberts

Viola Hancock Roberts, age 90 of Franklin County, Va. and Washington D.C. died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the Patuxent River Health Rehab Center, Laurel, Maryland. She was born in Patrick County Virginia, November 14, 1919 and grew up in Rocky Mount, Virginia. After high school, she worked for the Federal Government in Washington D.C., later as a secretary at the Doctor’s Hospital, then on to other jobs before retiring as a Facilities’ Manager for the Wyoming Apartment Complex. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter F. Hancock and Cora Foster Hancock; her husband (Red) Merlyn G. Roberts; brothers, Walter Hancock, Frank Mason Hancock, Posey Hancock, and Harold Hancock; sisters, Eliza Hancock Davis, Mary Hancock Reynolds, Nellie Hancock, Alice Hancock Souther, Doris Hancock Mason, and Serena Hancock Powell. Survivors include her daughter, Amber Dawn and husband Dave Finnigan, granddaughter, Erin and husband Mike Melton; two great-grandsons, Cody and Connor of Maryland; brother, James Russell Hancock and wife Mary of Illinois; sister, Opal Hancock Arduino of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Harry Shelton officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
