Virginia Mae Hodges, age 84 of Rocky Mount went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 21, 2012. She was born in Cecil County, MD on May 7, 1927 a daughter of the late Arthur and Fleeta McPeak. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Harlow Gardner, Sr. (father of her six children), William Hodges and Johnson Hodges; daughter, Angelene Gardner; a son, Harlow Gardner, Jr.; granddaughter, Donna Rigney; three brothers, Robert McPeak, Sonny McPeak and Eugene McPeak; and sisters, Edith Alderson and Alice Crotts. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Virginia (Charlie) Lewis of Henry, Covar (Kathy) Gardner of Roanoke, Jeanette (Dennis) Crowley of Florida, Pauline (Jerry) Bowles of Callaway; grandchildren, Debra Williams of Glade Hill, Kenny Johnson of Java, Patrick Gardner of Roanoke, Anthony Gardner of Roanoke, Benson Scott of Wirtz, Anisa Scott of North Carolina, Jennifer Burtch of Roanoke, Jimmy Jones of Rocky Mount, and Cristy Johnson of Rocky Mount; 14 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Irene (Allen) Pendleton of North Carolina; also numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Jeanie McPeak of Blackstone and Norma McPeak of Roanoke; special friends, Helen Quinn and Elaine Harmon of Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be conducted from Woodlawn Baptist Church 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Eddie Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville.
