Virginia Ann (Lewis) Popejoy Born March 19, 1933, to James H. and Edna M. (Myers) Lewis, at their home, two and an half miles west of the Eel River meeting house, in Kosciusko County, Indiana. Mother was baptized in June, 1950, into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church. She answered the call of the Master in the evening hours of Feb. 6th 2024. She was united in marriage with Kenneth Lee Popejoy on Dec. 5, 1953, at the home of her parents. They began their married life at Ocean Side, Ca. as Dad was still in active service. From there they moved back to Eel River for a few years until 1960, when they moved to Flora District, where they spent most of their 48 years together. After Dad passed away, Mother moved to Virginia to be near her daughters. Her Pigg River family made her feel at home, and she was known to many as “Granny P”. They were blessed with three sons and four daughters. She is survived by a son, John (Rita); two daughters, Marjorie Mason (Nathan) and Rosanna Hillman; a son-in-law, David Scott; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Irene Metzger (Max) and Ruby Metzger (Leroy). Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband; four children, Mary Ann, Dale, Joseph and Marlene; and a daughter-in-law, Carol (Hoblit) Popejoy. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2024 at Pigg River Old German Baptist Brethren Church with the Home Brethren officiating. Interment will take place in North Manchester, IN. Her family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Pigg River Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
