Walter Samuel Crook

Walter Samuel Crook, of Ferrum, the 4th child born to David Crocket Crook and Claudie Mae Taylor Crook on June 14, 1924, died peacefully at home after a lifetime of hard work on June 22, 2015 at 91 years of age. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Tillman and one sister Laimer Hedrick and is survived by two sisters, Eula Mullins and Betty Conner both of Henry. He leaves behind his loving, devoted wife of 62 years, Margaret Woods Crook. He was the father of two; a daughter, Margie Gearhart and husband Wayne; a son Steven Crook and wife Dorothy “Dot”, grandfather of three, Daniel Gearhart, Charles Crook “Brock” and Brittany Crook. Also surviving are a special nephew, Roy Hedrick, special group of caregivers, Debra Heath, Faye Bennett and Sandy Wickline and a beloved friend, Tom Lamkin. He loved old time music, being with family and friends and sawmilling. He was a member of Prillaman Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 25, 2015 at Flora Funeral Service with Rev. J. Michael Magnani officiating. Interment will follow in Sam Crook Family Cemetery at the home. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
