Walter L. Jones

Walter L. Jones passed away in Rocky Mount, VA at the age of 96 on Saturday, April 6, 2019. He was born September 30, 1922, to the late Thomas Fine and Maddie Maude Turner Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Iva Ross Jones, four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his brother, Herbert Jones, three sisters-in-law, Jean Draper, Ruth Dandridge and Nina Ross, two children, Roger Lewis Jones (Nancy) and Kathy Jones Palmieri (Frank), three grandchildren,  Mitzi (Shawn), Matthew (Rachel) and Trevor (Jennifer), six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Tristen, Logan, Thomas, Elisabeth and Amy, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and caretakers. Walter proudly served his country in World War II in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign with Company G, 337th Infantry, 85th Custer Division where he received three Bronze Star Medals with V (Valor). Walter was a faithful member of American Legion Post 6 for seventy-two years. The family respectfully requests no food. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
