Walter Lee Oakes

Walter Lee “Chuck” Oakes, lifetime Dairy Farmer of Rocky Mount passed away peacefully to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the age of 60. He was surrounded by his loving family with love, prayer and faith of God’s comfort. He fought a strong fight and kept his faith throughout, one day at a time. We cherish his generous spirit, love of family, friends and life. He was loved by so many and will be sadly missed. Chuck loved and focused on all of God’s creation, farming was so much of who he was. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Walter S. and Ruth G. Oakes. Surviving are his brother, Sammie Oakes and fiancé, Marilyn Wright; sisters, Sylvia Kelly of Roanoke, Judy Hosaflook of Union Cross, NC, Bonnie Mullins and husband Tommy of Rocky Mount, Brenda Oakes of Roanoke; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He cherished great joy with his family of pets, Maggie Mae, Pee Wee, Daisy and GoGo. The family request that those wishing to make memorial contributions please consider Ferrum Rescue and Public Safety or your favorite charity. A memorial service will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 1:00 p.m. Friday with Rev. Gregory Poff officiating. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
