Willard M. McBride, age 84 of Glade Hill, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. He was reunited with his loving parents Bailey and Ludie McBride; brother, Paul David McBride; and granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Hubbard. Left to cherish his memories and celebrate his life is his dear wife and soul mate of 64 years, Ruby Blankenship McBride. Other surviving family include his three children, Pauline Hubbard (husband A.C.) of Glade Hill, Willard Nelson McBride (wife Polly) of Glade Hill, and Dr. Mark A. McBride (wife Kimberly) of Roanoke. Willard leaves behind four grandchildren, TaraMulins, Greg Hubbard, Tia McBride all of Glade Hill and Benjamin McBride of Roanoke) and six great-grandchildren (Sydney, Roman and Brock Mullins and Gabe, Bailey and Hailey Furrow) all of Glade Hill. Also surviving are two brothers, Allen McBride (Mary) of Rocky Mount and Herbert McBride of Boones Mill; and four sisters, Bernice Blankenship of Glade Hill, Rachel Campbell (Sonny) of Salem, Ruth Preston (Donald) of Glade Hill and Joyce Nichols (Donald) of Roanoke; nieces, Lynn Boggess and Theresa Shepherd; and nephews, Keith and Brian McBride. There are numerous great-nieces and great-nephews who will miss him dearly. Willard was born in Glade Hill, VA on May 19, 1927 and was employed by Lane Furniture Co. and retired from North American Housing. Willard was a devoted husband to his wife Ruby. They always enjoyed planting their annual vegetable garden and taking afternoon drives together. He loved to fish, go hunting and share stories with his grandchildren. The McBride family extends a sincere and heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff and personnel on Unit 2 at Pheasant Ridge Nursing Home for the excellent and compassionate care during his stay. We also extend thanks to Jill Altice and Ashley Wade for their loving care of our father. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, February 25, 2012 from Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Doss officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in kind can be made to the Gideons Bible Ministry, P.O. Box 915, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151, American Cancer Society, Glade Hill Rescue Squad or the American Alzheimer’s Association, 2728 Colonial Ave., Suite 2, Roanoke, Va. 24015. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
