William Claude “Junior” Rigney, age 73 of Penhook, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008 surrounded by his loving family.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Swanson and Nannie Kate Maxey Rigney; brother, Dudley Rigney; sisters, Stella Blankenship and Clara Luckadoo; and father and mother-in-law, Cecil and Ruth Fralin.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mildred Fralin Rigney; daughters, Drema and Mike Bowles of Charlottesville, Linda and Johnny Hutchinson of Roanoke, son William Allen Rigney of Boones Mill; three grandchildren that he adored, Shane, Hannah, and Tess Bowles; brothers, Swanson and Marlene Rigney, Paul Rigney and friend, Frances Barnes; sisters, Myrtle Donavant, Betty Jean and Junior Hall, Irene and Douglas Fralin.
Junior was a dedicated family man and a great friend. He had been retired from DuPont for 13 years and enjoyed many days fishing from his bass boat on Smith Mountain Lake. He was also an avid NASCAR race fan and was happiest when a Ford crossed the finish line first. Junior will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
