William “Earl” Campbell, age 63 formerly of Redwood went home to be with his heavenly father on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Earl was an active and longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop #362 in Redwood and Troop #2 in Roanoke for over 40 years. He loved fishing, camping, bluegrass and gospel music. In addition, he loved his yearly trips to Galax while attending the bluegrass festivals. Earl was preceded in death by his father and mother, Howard and Queenell Campbell; two sisters, Geraldine Anne Campbell and Georgia Carol Hodges; and one brother, Walter “Boat” Campbell. Surviving are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold “Strawberry” and Fern Campbell of Glade Hill; Ronnie and Pam Campbell of Hardy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma Jean and Harold Morris, Emily Sue and Winford Hodges, and Fred Hodges all of Rocky Mount; very special friends, Bob and Anne Kornegay of Roanoke; two very special great-nephews, Dylan and Ryan Hodges of Rocky Mount; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday with Mr. Bob Kornegay officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Boy Scouts of America or the American Cancer Society. His family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount and other times at the home of Sue and Winford Hodges, 1954 South Main Street, Rocky Mount. “I have fought my fight and in his arms I am not afraid.”
