William Herbert Dillon, 84 of Rocky Mount went to be with his Heavenly Father March 19, 2008.
He was born in Rocky Mount on March 11, 1924. He was preceded in death by his mother and father Flossie Board Dillon and Willie Reedie Dillon, and his brothers Coleman (Toby), Dennis, Reedie, Jr. and John Perry and sister Dorothyrine Carter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mildred Mitchell Dillon and was blessed with two wonderful and loving children, son David Thomas Dillon, and wife Kathy R. Dillon of Rocky Mount and daughter Ann Dillon McGhee, and husband Seward M. McGhee of Richmond, who were with him to the end. Six granddaughters, Lindsey Dillon King of Hampstead, NC, Megan Dillon of Indianapolis, Olivia Dillon of Vinton, Whitney McGhee of Los Angeles, Kendall McGhee Martin and Dillon McGhee of Richmond. Also two step grandchildren, Paul and Melissa Yeatts of Blue Ridge. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jack C. and Betty D. Dillon, sister Mary D. Slaten, sister-in-law Katherine S. Dillon, and many nieces and nephews.
His grandchildren were the joy of his life. He leaves a legacy with his family as being the greatest father in this world. His greatest pleasure was doing for others and never wanting or expecting anything in return. He loved to work on cars, boats, and anything with a motor. He left Richardson Motor Company (Martinsville) as Shop Foreman. He retired from Dupont in 1985 with 21 years of service. He loved his Lord and family unconditionally and will be greatly missed by his wife and family.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff on 6 West at Lewis-Gale Hospital for their wonderful loving care for Herbert and the family during his stay.
The family pastor, Reverend Bob Edwards will conduct the service at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
Visitation will be at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, in Rocky Mount on Friday from 3 to 4:30 pm. and 7 to 9 pm. Burial will be at Franklin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, 35 N. Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va. or The American Cancer Society.
