William Otho Holland, 85 of Rocky Mount, was called to heavenly rest on Friday, October 3, 2025, at his residence.

Poker Roo, as he was affectionately called by his youngest sister, was the oldest child born to the late Dave and Evie Holland on October 30, 1939. He was blessed with 85 years and eleven months.

Otho received his diploma from Lee M. Waid High School in 1955 where he was double promoted and was recognized for his baseball skills. He was multi-talented and worked various jobs over the years.

Those that knew and loved Otho called him Flip, Uncle Newt, and also Unc! In his free time, Flip enjoyed playing cards. You could often find him driving around the town of Rocky Mount visiting different stores, playing his lucky numbers and chatting with his many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three children, Melva Denise Holland, Maurice Pernell Holland, and Keith Tyrone Holland; one sister, Mary Jane Holland; and his brother-in-law, James Wayne Belcher.

Survivors to reminisce, reflect, and cherish his memory are one son, LeJohyn Holland of Yanceyville, North Carolina; one daughter, Melissa Holland of Dublin, Virginia; one grandson, Roynell Burshawn Holland of Roanoke, Virginia; one granddaughter, Natasha LittleJohn of North Carolina; one sister, Dr. Melva Holland Belcher of Roanoke, Virginia; one nephew, James (Deanna) Claytor, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia; one niece Jamay (Anthony) Gray of Roanoke, Virginia; great-nephew, James O. Claytor of Roanoke, Virginia; two great-nieces, Nephertitti Gray of Raleigh, North Carolina and Aaliyah Gray of Roanoke, Virginia; and a host of other relatives, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2025 . Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
