William Marvin Lovell, age 89, 0f Rocky Mount passed away Sunday February 24, 2013. He was born July 10, 1923 in Sydnorsville, VA . He was preceded in death by father and mother, John T. and Myrtle Ramsey Lovell; a daughter, Audrey Myrtle Lovell; two brothers John R. Lovell and George Merrill Lovell. He was survived by his loving spouse, Hazel Hudson Lovell, daughter, Lou L. Howell (Mahlon), son Terry M. Lovell, (friend Betsy Houston), grandchildren, Travis N. Wyatt (Suzie) all of Rocky Mount and Kristina Brice Lovell of San Francisco, CA , two great-grandchildren, Gina Wyatt and Bryce Lambert of Rocky Mount. Marvin accepted Christ in 1962 and joined the membership of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. He loved his church, family, church family and many friends. He showed his love for his church by serving in many capacities, Sunday School Superintendent, lay leader, member of administrative board, maintenance of buildings and lawn. He was a boy scout leader for many years and enjoyed camping and other activities with his “boys”. He was an outdoor person and enjoyed working in the sawmill industry with a good friend, Henry Law for a number of years. In later years, he was farm manager for D.W. Ramsey, Jr. and ranch manager for Hermes Ranch. He raised a garden each summer and liked to share his produce with good friends and neighbors. After retirement one of his favorite hobbies was golfing with friends. Several years ago, he was awarded Hometown Hero for WDBJ channel 7. When weather called for snow Marvin had his tractor and blade ready to push snow from many driveways in the neighborhood. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday February 26, 2013 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church (Sydnorsville) with Rev. Chris Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in High Street Cemetery. His family suggest memorial donations be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, c/o Rita Doughton, 2085 Crooked Oak Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151. His family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
