William Roy “Ray” McPherson, age 81 of Ferrum, died Monday, June 9, 2008.
He was born in Princeton, WVa. June 23, 1926 a son of the late Della and Alice McPherson, and was their last surviving child.
He retired from the Chicago North-Western Railroad before moving to Franklin County in 1969.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Mr. McPherson is survived by his wife, Betty Dublo McPherson of Ferrum and their four children, Kathy McPherson-Rozzelle of South Carolina, Tammy Sue Underwood of Ferrum, Ricky Wayne McPherson of Ferrum, Richard Jed McPherson of Ferrum; five children from a previous marriage, Barbara Holdren of Ohio, Arnetta Allen of Indiana, Shirley Loggins of WVa., Linda Butcher of Roanoke, William R. (Billy) McPherson of Roanoke; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and Rusty (his dog).
Graveside services will be conducted from Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery 10 a.m. Wednesday with Tommy Barrett officiating.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Ferrum Vol. Fire Department, c/o Chief Darryl Shively, 95 Shively Road, Ferrum, Va. 24088.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday with his family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
