William Otey Perdue

William Otey Perdue, age 92, of Union Hall passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt and Grace Perdue; brother, Ran; sister, Eva; in-laws, Zula, Johnnie and Ernest. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marie; two sons, Ronnie Perdue, Don Perdue (Donna); two daughters Sharon White (Dan), Kathy Angle (Ronnie); five grandchildren, Jennifer Vaden (Matt), Jonathan Amos (Kathryn), Matthew Angle, Lindsey Perdue and Breanna Perdue; six great- grandchildren Sarah and David Vaden, Makenna, Alexandra, Brooklynn and Ella Amos; sister Pauline Perdue. Otey was a proud veteran of World War II and served as a radar operator in the Aleutian Islands for over three years. He was awarded several medals and was honorably discharged. He returned home and married his soul mate, Marie Pagans Perdue. After retirement, he enjoyed a quiet life working in his shop creating folk art, birdhouses and antique replica cars and buggys. He had a keen interest in space history and enjoyed nature and the outdoors. He will be greatly missed by all of his loving family. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Monday with Pastor Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW Post 10840, 1376 Old Salem School Rd., Union Hall, Va. 24176. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
