”If you can’t save my life, save my soul” was Paul’s plea after learning he had cancer a few weeks ago. Thus the Lord took his soul on Tuesday April 17, 2012 at the age of 65. He was preceded in death by his father Wilbur Smith; a granddaughter, Kameron Taylor Shively. Paul retired after 35 years of service at MW Manufacturer. He enjoyed owning Jerry’s Auto sales and had a huge heart for many people and gave of himself unselfishly. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Nancy P. Smith; his children, Kristi Norton (Jack), Scott Smith, Kelli Shively (Shawn), Ivan Gonzales (Karissa); mother, Virginia Smith; grandchildren, Summer, Jackson, Payton, Camden, Kailee and Noel; brother and sister-in-law, Rabon and Emily Smith; nieces, Penny Smith and Lesley Wray; and many very special friends including Jerry Smith. Memorial donations may be made to Goodwill Industries or American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Mark Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
