William Frederick Turner, age 93 of Wirtz died Monday, October 24, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben T. and Delia Meador Turner; and sister, Reva Holland. Surviving are his loving wife of 71 years, Ruth Pugh Turner; three children, Diane T. Whitlow, Nancy T. Brown (Jim), Benjamin T. Turner (Maureen); grandchildren, Wanda C. Whitlow, Malinda T. Paul, James M. Turner, Elizabeth M. Turner, William M. Turner; sister, Elsie Turner; many nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Turner was very active in the community serving on various boards and committees. He was a charter member of the Burnt Chimney Fire Department, member of the Burnt Chimney Ruritan Club, past board member of the Franklin County Farm Bureau and First Virginia Bank, and Southern States Corporative. He was a dairy farmer for many years and served in the Dairyman Association. He also was a member of Red Valley United Methodist Church. Mr. Turner was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed my many. Special thanks to his caregivers, Eve Milton, Rebecca Jamison, Victoria Melson and to the staff of Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital for their care and concern. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Josh King officiating. Interment will follow in the Turner Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Burnt Chimney Fire Department or the Burnt Chimney Ruritan Club. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
