William “Bill” Richard Ullom, 67, of Glade Hill, VA, died September 25, 2010, in Rome, Italy. Bill was born October 9, 1942, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to Bonnie Jean (McCray) and William Henry Ullom. He attended Fairmont Senior High School in Fairmont, WV, and continued his education at Fairmont State, graduating in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He started his career with Owens Illinois. In 1985, he began working for Vitro Packaging and eventually became the Vice President of Sales. He retired as VP in late 2003 but continued to do what he loved by moving to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia and handling sales for Vitro on the east coast. Bill was a member of Redwood United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading, music, and going to the movies. Bill loved traveling with his wife and friends to destinations in the United States and abroad. He was a car aficionado and spent many a fall weekend supporting his WVU Mountaineers. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ullom; children and their spouses, Christine and Sean Richardson, Dan and Shannon Ullom; brother and sister-in-law, John Bruce and Sharon Ullom; brother-in-law Ted Waronicki; and six grandchildren, Cameron, Abigail, and Andrew Richardson, and Faye, Cecilia, and Dean Ullom. There will be a memorial service at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, 35 N Main Street in Rocky Mount, Virginia on Sunday at 2 p.m. There will a reception afterward at Bill’s home church, Redwood United Methodist Church, 3001 Old Franklin Turnpike in Rocky Mount, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to either the established Ullom Music Scholarship Fund, care of Fairmont State Foundation Inc. located at 1201 Locust Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554 or Bill’s local food bank, Helping Hands of Franklin County, PO Box 429, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
