William N. Via, age 92 of Rocky Mount passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017. He was born on September 21, 1924, in North Fork, West Virginia, moving to Franklin County as a child. Mr. Via proudly served his country in the United States Army in the European Theater during World War II and served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he was employed at Dupont in Martinsville, Virginia for over 39 years as an Industrial Mechanic. In his spare time, he enjoyed Nascar auto racing and vacationing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with his family. Mr. Via was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Annie Via; as well as his brothers, Thomas and Joseph Via; and sister, Ruby Via. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Rose Tuck Via; daughter, Tammy Joyce (John) of Cheraw, South Carolina; and "his favorite little granddaughter," Lauren Joyce of Arlington, Virginia. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Gracie Via of Salem; very special sister-in-law, Peggy Via of Rocky Mount; and very special brother-in-law, W.D. Tuck of Rocky Mount. The family would like to thank Helen Wilcox and Kitty Ruby of Carilion Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Mr. Via during his illness; and family friends, Edwin and Margie Prillaman for providing transportation, sitting, and helping the family in numerous ways; and family friend, James Lynch for his help throughout the years. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 1-2 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. with Reverend Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sandy Ridge Baptist Church.
