Winifred K. "Winnie" Mitchell

Winifred Kathleen “Winnie” Mitchell, age 84 of Rocky Mount went home to be with her Lord Saturday, May 21, 2011. She was born September 21, 1926 in Liverpool, England and also lived in Belfast, Ireland. She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Edens; and her husband, James W. Mitchell. Winnie served as organist for Rocky Mount Baptist Church since 1950 and also taught piano for many years. Surviving are her children, Paul F. Mitchell of Belmont, NC, Sharon R. Mitchell of Rocky Mount, Patricia M. Alley of Deland, FL, George M. Mitchell of Kennesaw, GA, Dennis M. Mitchell of Roanoke, TX, and Shelly M. Pugh of Bassett, VA; nine grandchildren to whom she was known as “BooBoo”; six great-grandchildren; and special family friend, Regina Clark. Funeral services will be conducted from Rocky Mount Baptist Church 11 a.m. Monday. Interment will follow in the Mitchell Family Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff and residents of Emeritus at Cave Spring and the staff of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their care and concern. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
