Phyllis Yvonne Sweeney

Phyllis Yvonne Sweeney, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, age 82 of Rocky Mount passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 and was welcomed into the presence of her Lord and Savior. She fought the good fight, finished the race, and has kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). She was the daughter of the late Hoyt Barton and Virginia Worthy Barton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Calvin Sweeney. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Buddy Barton. Yvonne was born and raised in Stewartsville, Virginia. She married and lived in Roanoke until moving to Rocky Mount, Virginia in 2004. Yvonne was a faithful member of the Sunshine Sunday School class and Rocky Mount Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gary Lynn Sweeney of Rocky Mount, Mark Alan Sweeney (Pam) of Lynchburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Robert Andrew (Drew) Sweeney (Jessi), Ryan Blake Sweeney, Janelle Hope Carey (Devin) of Ruther Glen, Virginia, Lillian Faith Sweeney, Colleen Suzanne Sweeney; great-grandson, Grayson Sweeney; sister, Brenda Warnick; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Mountain View Cemetery (Vinton, Virginia) on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor David Burgess officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Rocky Mount Baptist Church, 85 West Church Street, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
