Susan Vass Temple, 68, of Roanoke passed away, February 27th, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born to the late Maynard and Ethel Vass, February 22nd, 1953 in Carroll County, Va. Susan graduated from Carroll County High School and received her Bachelors from The University of Virginia. She went on to receive her Masters from Marshall University in 1980.

She was married to Allan Temple in 1980. Susan is survived by her three children: Miracle (Tony) Martin; Ian (Ryan Rexrode) Temple; and Curran Temple. She is survived also by three grandchildren: Caroline and Talmadge Martin and Malcolm Temple. She leaves behind her beloved sister, Joyce Hodges and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Susan was an active member of Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church. Christ was the central part of her life. She always tried to live in a way that brought Him glory. She participated in various charitable organizations and Co-founded The Southwest Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group. She was a teacher in various counties and completed the last 13 years of her teaching career in Franklin County, Virginia.

Susan was an educator right up until she passed. Whether she was teaching others about PH, tutoring students at church, or playing Scrabble with friends, she was always trying to learn more and desired others to learn more also. More importantly, Susan taught others how to live without complaining, to accept what you are given with grace, and to make the best of what you have been handed.

Those who knew her, loved her. Her genuine laugh, infectious humor, and indefatigable spirit drew in all manner of people.

Viewing ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 4 th , 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Park. Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Please be mindful of social distancing and bring your mask.

Donations can be made to The Pulmonary Hypertension Association and flowers can be sent to Flora Funeral Home of Rocky Mount, Va.

The burial will be in Forest Rest at the Cemetery so please wear appropriate footwear. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
